Message from The Honorary President of St Brigid’s Drama Group on the Occasion of the 75th Anniversary
The 75th anniversary of St Brigid’s Drama Group is a very special occasion for the group and for the town of Drogheda. Through the years we have staged a story worthy of celebration – and considering the social, economic and political shifts in recent times, it looks like there will be no shortage of drama to inspire in the years to come!
Born in the ‘40s, St Brigid’s welcomed people from all walks. Players and producers, makers and musicians – the group’s lifeblood has always been its members’ talent and commitment. And with every line learnt (and tune), every nail hammered – in the right conditions, anything can flourish! In seven and a half decades, the group’s canon is testament to its foundation, and the lifelong friendships that support it. Against the backdrop of beautifully crafted sets, and carefully choreographed scenes, the stories of some of the greatest writers continue to be brought to life for the people of Drogheda.
It is with great pride and joy we celebrate the legacy of St Brigid’s and 75 wonderful years of drama. And much like the group’s namesake, Brigid – a symbol of life and renewal, may there be many years of plays to produce yet.
Des McGinty
Honorary President
