2024 Lovers: Winners & Losers

Lovers: Winners & Losers
by Brian Friel
Brian Friel’s Lovers: Winners & Losers premiered at the Gate Theatre in 1967 and consists of two unrelated, complementary plays. Set in 1960s Ireland, Friel explores the complexities of love and relationships. In Winners, two teenagers sit atop a hill, preparing for their final school exams. The girl is pregnant and they are soon to be married. In Losers, Friel portrays an older couple reflecting on their long term relationship and the compromises that have come with it.
Sive was previously performed by St Brigid’s Drama group in 1885.
